SFCC pulls art after complaints,
vandalism
An overwhelming outpouring of complaint coupled with vandalism to a painting of a crucified gorilla has prompted Santa Fe Community College to remove the artwork from public display... The painting, which depicts a gorilla nailed to a cross, will be relocated from the college's 4-month-old Visual Arts Center to a more secure area. Steinhoff said the painting is not sacrilegious; rather, it symbolizes the destruction humans are carrying out against animals and the Earth... The complaints and vandalism surfaced soon after a Catholic church group from Cerrillos protested the painting as well as the movie Dogma on Sunday afternoon... |
