"Censorship alive and well
in modern academia"
At Northern New Mexico Community College, a play is censored because it contains commonly used language that the college president finds objectionable. At Santa Fe Community College, a small group of Christian fanatics spat and splattered cola on a painting by Monika Steinhoff, scaring the college into effectively censoring the painting... I have seen Steinhoff's painting. It is about the ongoing destruction by man of the natural environment. The people who tried to damage the painting misunderstood it, and the college rewarded their ignorance by censoring the painting... It is ironic that censorship is thriving at institutions of higher of learning where the pursuit of knowledge is supposed to be the goal. Roberto Gallegos
